Do you know how to get more than $100,000 in FDIC insurance? Okay, IRAs are insured up to $250,000, but I am not talking about IRAs right now. Do you know that there are different ways you can structure deposit accounts in order exceed the $100,000 limits? Let me give you a couple of examples:
First, if you have a joint account, husband and wife, that account is insured up to $200,000 and you and your spouse can have an additional individual account ie (you can make each account payable on death to the other spouse), then those individual accounts are each insured up to $100,000 each.
With this example, the husband and wife have $400,000 in insured deposits with the same bank. Now, this is a simple example and the possibilities are endless. I have attached a link from the FDIC that shows how you can get more FDIC insurance.
